About the book
Paris, January, and the queue has nine hundred items in it. Two years ago Sol Brandt spent three weeks negotiating the right to approve every use of her own likeness, won it, and was pleased with herself. The clause says approval is personal and cannot be delegated, the license has expanded into eleven territories and forty retail partners, and thirty requests now arrive every day for the rest of her life. She is twenty-eight, she has a company paying her a retainer to make six hundred employees enjoy themselves four times a year, and the module this term is about attention: what it costs, why there is not enough of it, and what happens to everything a person does not look at.
