Paris, the ninth of January, and Sol Brandt signs a one-year contract for less than half of what she made last year, non-exclusive, with a file doing two of the four campaigns. She is twenty-nine. Nobody has been unfair to her at any point. In a meeting in February a brand director says, pleasantly and without meaning anything by it, that the file costs less than her flight. In April a woman she shared a flat with seven years ago writes from Rotterdam, where she owns a building, and tells her what actually went wrong in those years, and it is not the thing Sol has been carrying.
