About the book
The far shore of the Waters of Death, in the ninth year of Gilgamesh's reign and the second of the seven bad years. Three hundred cut poles get a boat across water nothing living may touch, and on the other side is an old man who has been alive since before the flood and is extremely tired of visitors. He tells Gilgamesh what happened at Shuruppak, six days and seven nights of it, and he is the only man who saw it. Then he sets a test that is failed in the first hour and proved by seven loaves of bread. There is one more thing after that, growing on the floor of the sea, and a serpent comes to a pool while a man is washing.
