About the book
Kansas City, this year. A food-service distributor with nine warehouses and four thousand two hundred employees has fourteen months of things going wrong that nobody can connect, and one man on the night shift whose behavior has begun to frighten people. Nate Cobb is retained to assess him. What he finds is that there is nobody to assess: the shifts, the breaks and the routes are set each week by a platform configured by a consultant in 2019 who has since left the industry, and nobody in the building can explain it. His mother and his sister meet him in a hotel restaurant in December, which has never happened. And in June, on a Sunday call, somebody says something out loud.
